Pajaro Valley Little League 2025 Spring Season

T-Ball (5-6)

If your child has never played baseball before then this is the best division to select. It's for kids who are League Age 5, or League Age 6 players who have not previously played Tee Ball. This division introduces baseball fundamentals to first-time players, with a huge emphasis on fun. Instructional aspects of this division are fairly limited, with only the very basic fundamentals being covered. Run to first base after you hit it and throw to first base after fielding a grounder are about the maximum level of sophistication you'll see here. Games and practices rarely exceed an hour, and every kid gets to bat at least a couple times per game. Plan on two to three baseball events per week for this division (never more than three).

A (6-8)

Farm is a non-competitive division for kids who are League Age 7, or League Age 6 players who have previously played Tee Ball. Some League Age 8-year-olds may consider playing Farm if they are new to youth sports. Each team's coach or manager pitches to the batters on their own team using a soft velocity pitch. The flow of the game is introduced, as players understand how outs are made and what makes up an inning. An inning ends when the defensive team records 3 outs, or a maximum run limit is reached. Everyone sits the bench from time to time but will always hit in the lineup. Coaches will play players in a variety of positions they can play safely. Balls and strikes are not called, but if a hitter has not hit the ball after five hittable pitches, then the hitter is out.

AA (7-9)

This is the first level of baseball where the kids start to pitch to each other, and stealing is allowed. The AA Division is made up of mostly League Age 8-year-olds, with some 9-year-olds who are new to baseball, and some advanced League Age 7-year-olds. AA is still highly instructional and there is a minimal focus on competition. There are no playoffs and standings are not kept. Many players in AA played in the Farm Division as a 7 and/or 8-year-old. Player assessments are conducted, and a draft selection process forms the teams. It is essential that players attend one of the skills assessments to assist in determining appropriate league placement and allow for competitively balanced teams. The major difference between AA and Farm is that a kid pitches, instead of a coach. However, instead of walks, on Ball 3 a coach will “soft toss” the ball to the batter

for an additional opportunity to hit the ball, and each of these pitches will count as a strike whether it is hittable or not, until 3 strikes or a hit has occurred. From an instructional standpoint, a main objective of this division is to help players become more comfortable at the plate and improve their ability to hit the ball against live pitching. Key skills developed include being prepared to make a play defensively and situational awareness when fielding, being able to identify the strike zone, and demonstrating proper form when catching and throwing.

AAA (8-11)

AAA is a competitive Minor League division for kids who are League Age 9 & 10. It is open to League Age 8 players with advanced skills, who request to be evaluated and are drafted onto a team based upon skill and availability. It is also open to League Age 11 players who do not participate in Majors evaluations and/or are not drafted by a Majors team. Teams are formed via draft. Players attend an evaluation session in January prior to the team drafts. AAA is where kids really start to play the game on their own without coach assistance. In AAA there are umpires, official scores are kept, and there are playoffs. Double-elimination playoffs are held after the end of the regular season. Division winners progress to the District Tournament of Champions. There are also opportunities to be selected to the 9/10 All Star team.

Majors (10-12)

Majors is the competitive Major League division for kids who are League Age 11 & 12. It is also open to League Age 10 players with advanced skills, who request to be evaluated and are drafted onto a team based upon skill and availability. All players who are League Age 12 must be drafted to a Majors Division team unless an exception is approved by the candidate’s parent, the Board, and the District Administrator. Players attend an evaluation session in January prior to the team drafts. Official scores are kept, and double-elimination playoffs are held after the end of the regular season. Division winners progress to the District Tournament of Champions. There are also opportunities to be selected to the 11-year-old All Star team and the 12-year-old All Star team.
